  • My Story:

I started as a part-time electrician when I was only 14 years old. I’ve worked for  many electrical contractors since then. Back in 2009, I decided to join Horsepower  Electric. Within the first couple of weeks working here I sensed that this company  was different and special.

It wasn’t just a gut feeling, but it was abundantly clear  from seeing the way the ownership, managers, and every last employee were  united with one voice and one vision. Amidst the high expectations they had for  us, the ownership made each and every one of us feel appreciated and important.  They enabled us with limitless growth potential. I grabbed the opportunity to  show my skill-set, and I knew that one day I’ll make a real difference in  Horsepower. What impressed me most wasn’t just the passion and vision that the  company had, but the voice that each individual employee had. Opinions were  encouraged and valued, and that created a realistic team atmosphere all around.  The owners and supervisors encouraged me and led me down the path that  ultimately brought out my fullest potential. After a few years I was promoted to  Project Foreman, and not long after I was promoted to Project Manager. Now, I’m  eternally grateful and proud to hold the title of Executive Director for the High  Rise Division. I would’ve never thought that I was capable of running this division,  but with the leadership’s support I’ve found a way to bring out the best in myself.  I discovered skills that I didn’t even know I had, and with the help of others I was  able to devise the right structures and systems needed in bringing a new level of  accountability to our team. Along this journey, I have learnt how to listen, lead,  and inspire people to do great work. It’s not always easy being the director and  pushing my team at certain times, but I do it to bring out their best. I value and  respect all my teammates very deeply. I happen to be the one accountable, but  that accountability translates into finding my teammates exceptional qualities and  bringing out those qualities in the best of ways. I encourage them to develop  their skills and step up to the task. It’s rewarding to see how people grow when  you just open the door for them. It is no surprise that these team members are  undertaking massive projects and successfully getting them done. They all share  this accountability with me and they’re all helping pave the way for our future. I  am grateful to Horsepower for giving us the opportunity to think big… and GROW  even bigger.
